For those of you that don’t know, Danielle has been one of our longstanding members at Angel Oak CrossFit. She has been training with us for months now, and is a consistent 8 am’er. We asked Danielle to share her experience with us so far, and here is what she had to say!
Danielle and CrossFit
How long have you been doing Crossfit? When did you start?
I started CrossFit May of last year, but was olympic lifting for about 8 months prior.
Why did you start Crossfit?
I wanted a challenge and to be surrounded by like minded people.
What drives you to do CrossFit (competitive goals? weight loss/gain goals? stress relief, generates a specific feeling)?
My biggest reason for doing CrossFit is to be healthy and happy. But I also do CrossFit because it gives me a sense of accomplishment.
Danielle and AOCF
Have you learned anything new since working with Megan and James?
Yes! How CrossFit goes beyond physical strength and is so much mental strength as well. Most importantly you should enjoy whatever you do 🙂
What do you think makes AOCF special/unique?
The personalized attention. Meg and James know your weakness and strengths and help you grow as an athlete and person.
Workouts and Nutrition
How many days a week do you work out?
3 times for Crossfit, and 2 days of accessory stuff?
How do you prioritize workouts with your daily/weekly schedule?
I try to get everything done in the morning, so I have no excuses!
Favorite Lift?/Least Fav?
I love a heavy split jerk. Cleans can be a struggle.
Most memorable PR?/Most hilarious CF Fail?
When I first PRed my back squat at 160: I remember being so happy that I finally hit a significant back squat PR! My CF fail is anything that involves the bike. Anybody who knows me, knows that is not my favorite. 🙂
How has your nutrition/approach to nutrition changed since beginning CF?
Instead of focusing on how food makes me look, I have started to focus on how food makes me feel and perform when I train.
Do you follow any type of eating plan/regimen? (i.e. RP Diet, IF, Paleo, Zone, etc)
I RP-ish it. I honestly do struggle to be consistent with it, but it is a goal I am working towards.
Many people find it really difficult to eat well throughout the week or meal prep…Any tips?
Try to do it on your day off. I like to weigh my food out the night before so I don’t have to worry about it in the morning.
Favorite “Good for Me Meal”?
Whole wheat tortilla with beef, coleslaw, and avocado
Favorite “Cheat Meal”?
Any goals for 2018? (In or out of the gym)
Working on gymnastic movements, particularly pull ups and handstands. Also stick to RP constantly for 3 months. Clean and Jerk 130 and snatch 115.
How do you approach goal setting?
I try to make the goals as specific and realistic as possible and monitor my progress.
Most important piece of CF gear?
Jaws hand grips.
What do you do outside of the gym?
Hang out with my kitty and boyfriend 🙂
Tell us about the best date night you’ve ever had!
More of a date weekend, which was camping in Banner, North Carolina and visiting all the breweries possible.
