Teen Athletic Development

The Angel Oak Teen Athletic Development program focuses on…

  • Teaching young athletes proper lifting techniques
  • Creating a safe space for youth to come and be themselves
  • Building a fun and safe workout environment
  • Beginning with the basics, and making sure each athlete has a solid foundation of movement

Our goal is to reach as many youth athletes as we can, and show them that working out and training can be fun! Check it out for yourself!

Meet Coach James

James’ love and passion for fitness stemmed during his junior year of high school, where he began weight training in preparation for the upcoming basketball season. Being of average height and athleticism, James realized the importance and potential that a complete weightlifting program could have on his performance on the basketball court. Becoming stronger, faster, and more flexible, helped James stay on the court for longer minutes and help reduced the likelihood of injury.

 

After high school and college, James pressed forward with his calling and sought opportunities to further his knowledge in fitness; and he succeeded.

 

James applied to and earned an internship in Pepperdine University’s Strength and Conditioning Department, where he was exposed to programming and working with athletes for all sports including swimming, water polo, baseball, soccer, golf, track & field, and basketball. From there, he earned the opportunity to work directly with Villanova University’s football team. In this role, James developed players’ speed and agility on the field and raw strength in the weight room. Being exposed to different sports, James was able to learn how to train all athletes through different methods and techniques.

 

Today, James channels this passion for coaching young athletes through his popular Teen Athletic Development class! Twice a week, James leads teenagers through basic strength training, weightlifting, and aerobic sessions while educating them on proper weight room etiquette and safety. James firmly believes that beginning a foundational weight training program at a young age is paramount for cultivating a love for fitness and health.
