If you don’t know “The Cap’n”, he’s not hard to miss! Just look for the tall, tattooed, bearded man who has been doing a metcon for at least 30 minutes…and is still smiling! Chris is a founding member of Angel Oak CrossFit, and is an integral piece of our community! While he may not get to be here all the time (someone’s got to drive the ships!), when he’s home in Charleston, you can find him here coaching classes, working out, and making gym plans with his fitfam!
Chris started CrossFit in 2012 while stationed in the Arabian Gulf with the Coast Guard. A Few of his buddies he was deployed with, who were all CrossFitters, convinced Chris to give CrossFit a try. And, after a few workouts, he was hooked. His first year of CrossFit was at an abandoned Marine Corps barracks in Bahrain, and on the back decks of Coast Guard patrol boats. He had a few plates, some rusted barbells, and a pull-up bar. When he got back to the States, he joined his first box in Washington. After getting out of the military, he moved to Charleston where he met Angel Oak CrossFit owners, Megan & James.
Chris’ comes from a competitive sports background. He played sports his whole life, which has ingrained competition within him. But, what has kept him in CrossFit boxes, is the community aspect. He says that he has formed so many amazing friendships through CrossFit, that he can’t imagine going back to working out without that.
Chris earned his CrossFit Level-1 certification in 2014, and later earned his Level-2 in the summer of 2018. The energy and positive vibes Chris brings to each class he coaches and participates in is infectious, and will make that hour long class the best hour of your day. We could not be more excited to have Chris as a part of this coaching staff, and amazing community at Angel Oak CrossFit.
